As a whole, we only failed to predict two categories, both of which (Editing & Foreign Film) were categories we predicted unanimously.
You can always find a group better at predicting a particular category, but they have a decent track record. Of course, much of the press about them being a successful Oscar precursor is their own press machine in motion.
Yeah. The reason I ask is that I keep seeing it in the media as a “HUGE OSCAR PREDICTOR” and I just didn’t know if the talking point actually had the legs some people seem to think it does.
I’ll have to research that and get back to you. I know they have picked films like L.A. Confidential, Sideways and Brokeback Mountain the past and thus failed to forecast, but more detailed info I don’t have at the moment.
As you’ll note in the sidebar, I have made specific mention that my winners predictions have not been changed as yet. I have planned on getting to that, but I have been super busy lately.
4 out of 6 ain’t bad. The Hurt Locker, Kathryn Bigelow, Christoph Waltz and Mo’Nique were my choices as well as my predictions.
I’ve driven people crazy with my predictions of an Oscar for Sandra Bullock, but I never thought she’d win a critics’ award, even one from these guys. The non-nominated Tilda Swinton (Julia) is my personal favorite this year.
Jeff Bridges is one of my favorite actors but I don’t think he gave anywhere near his best performance in Crazy Heart. I would have preferred George Clooney or Jeremy Renner.
Oh, I don’t think Avatar is necessarily the front runner because it’s won the most. They are all tech awards. And Basterds did win for Screenwriting and Supporting Actor. I wouldn’t be surprised if it did win. But I’m still gonna root for The Hurt Locker.
But so far, it’s won virtually no important awards. All techs, but it’s definitely still possible they’ll give it to Avatar. But, Inglourious Basterds has picked up three trophies so far, so it’s not out of the hunt.
