Another in a string of expected hits that have disappointed at the box office, The Internship fails to top the week’s other new release, The Purge as well as last week’s #1, Fast & Furious 6 and the surprisingly strong holdover Now You See Me. The Purge turned its gimmick into box office magic, taking in nearly $34 million at the box office, a fairly strong take for a mid-Summer horror flick. After Earth dropped more than 60% in its second week and confirms that word of mouth isn’t helping.
