It was a 2D-record-breaking weekend for The Dark Knight Rises as it barely inched past its predecessor to top the weekend with $160.8 million. Could the numbers have been higher? Quite possibly had a man with a gun not killed 12 innocent people at a midnight showing last weekend. The film had a record-setting midnight opening, suggesting it could have eclipsed The Avengers, but now we won’t ever know, nor does it really matter. Next weekend should see a higher than normal hold over for all those who skipped the film out of safety concerns finally check the film out.
