Release Date:
December 13, 2013
Synopsis:
From IMDb: “Madea dispenses her unique form of holiday spirit on rural town when she’s coaxed into helping a friend pay her daughter a surprise visit in the country for Christmas.”
Poster: B+ / C (2) / D
Review: Madea is indeed a “nutcracker,” making the first design the most fitting of them all. The second two seem like they might be the beginning of a series of Madea-hates-children Christmas set and the fourth has an abysmal tagline and looks utterly generic.
Trailer: C / C+
Review: As far as teasers go, this doesn’t make this look like a fun film. That being said, it highlights some of the scenes from the film, which doesn’t give one hope for the end result.
The second trailer uses a couple of the items from the teaser, but expands our knowledge of the film’s plot to black-meets-redneck stereotype consumption. It’s almost horrendous, but it does have a few more funny moments than the first trailer. And if Larry the Cable Guy can’t get white butts in the seats to a black movie, nothing will. The Madea character isn’t that interesting to me, so I’ll probably skip it, but fans of Perry’s schtick may have a blast.
Oscar Prospects:
None.
