Synopsis:

From IMDb: “THE LITTLE STRANGER tells the story of Dr. Faraday, the son of a housemaid, who has built a life of quiet respectability as a country doctor. During the long hot summer of 1948, he is called to a patient at Hundreds Hall, where his mother once worked. The Hall has been home to the Ayres family for more than two centuries. But it is now in decline and its inhabitants – mother, son and daughter – are haunted by something more ominous than a dying way of life. When he takes on his new patient, Faraday has no idea how closely, and how disturbingly, the family’s story is about to become entwined with his own.”

Review: (#1) Like an old painting, it’s chipped and faded and with his face erased, it’s mysterious. The problem is that it doesn’t make immediate sense. (#2) While still not entirely sensical, this design is far more interesting than the prior design. The young girl drawn to a boy within a painting, which happens to be a painting of the house the film is set in accompanied by three individuals clearly posing for a portrait of their own. It has many layers, which makes it fascinating even if not terribly connective to the film as depicted in the trailer.

Review: When you have a haunted house horror flick, it has been de rigeur to make the house the centerpoint of the trailer and fit in as many scares as possible. What sets this trailer apart, and hopefully the film as well, is that it doesn’t go for cheap scares, nor scares at all. It merely suggests that something sinister is happening behind the painted-on manners of the characters in the film.

Oscar Prospects:

None.
