Review: Going for the war-torn look of the lettering, the black-and-white characters on the split-orange background really doesn’t appeal to the eye. It looks as if the creators were forcing an artistic style.
Trailer Rating: C; C+
Review: Journalists in war-torn areas are popular subjects in films these days. Although this film takes place in Bosnia/Herzegovina, there will likely be socio-political commentary that applies to the war on Iraq. The trailer doesn’t look like it adds anything to the subject that many other films haven’t already gone into depths. It looks very similar in theme to the Cate Blanchett starrer Veronica Guerin.
What an unfortunate title. Although the film still doesn’t seem more interesting, it’s clear that the title is the most offensive thing about it. There are a few more scenes that make the action more cohesive in this preview and gives the audience a better understand of what they’re in for, but little more is improved.
Oscar Prospects:
Just like Guerin, this film isn’t likely to ignite Oscar interest, though a late-career nod for Richard Gere could be possible.
