Synopsis:
From IMDb: “The story of martial-arts master Ip Man, the man who trained Bruce Lee.”

Review: A somewhat pretty, but ultimately generic poster design that will entice fans of the genre, but few otherwise.
Trailer: D / C+
Review: The first trailer makes this seem like the ultimate in cheesy ’70s Asian exploitation film and not the crafted biopic it is. On top of this, the static limitations of a single scene won’t create broad appeal.
Going into the second trailer, they at least added some more competent production design and spread the story out to various venues, each exemplifying the beauty we’ve come to expect from the true masters of Asian cinema (Wong Kar Wai and Zhang Yimou). However, the content is surprisingly light for a filmmaker like Wong.
Oscar Prospects:
Could be a Best Foreign Language film nominee or it could end up being instantly dismissed as another in a long line of forgettable Asian imports.
