Review: (#1) A rudimentary, unexciting teaser poster that’s satisfactory, but underwhelming.
(#2) Another chintzy teaser that’s not nearly as exciting as the designer thought it was. (#3) What’s most distracting in this design is just how heavily Photoshopped the image is. It’s so awful that the actors look more like animated characters than real people. That the image isn’t that exciting doesn’t help.
(#4-#7) These four character designs are precisely what is appropriate for this style of film. Unfortunately, the actors are heavily Photoshopped, making this entirely unrealistic. Matter of fact, they are the same visages other designs have had, which makes them all a bit distracting.
(#8-#10) I’m going to lump these three designs together because they are similar enough in their scope and style. They match the other designs so far released, a competitively dark series of designs. Yet, of these three, design (#8) stands out as the most exemplary of them all mixing the right amount of posture and setting.
Trailer Rating: (B-) / B
Review: (#1) (NOT CURRENTLY AVAILABLE) It’s hard to get excited about the reboot of a dud franchise with characters set too far into their own pasts. It’s like they hope they can appeal to younger audiences while the audiences that are already familiar with the character are left scratching their heads at the necessity.
(#2) The narrator’s voice doesn’t seem fitting, but the trailer presents some interesting teaser images that make this look less awful than many of us are expecting.
Oscar Prospects:
No one’s certain if the film is even going to be any good. After two abortive attempts at turning this property into a mega franchise with no Oscar nomination in sight, I can’t imaging the reboot’s going to be much more successful considering Fox got its first Oscar nomination this year for a Marvel property and they’ve been doing this longer than nearly any other studio.
