Synopsis:

From IMDb: “The Gunslinger, Roland Deschain, roams an Old West-like landscape where “the world has moved on” in pursuit of the man in black. Also searching for the fabled Dark Tower, in the hopes that reaching it will preserve his dying world.”

Review: (#1) This isn’t the first poster design to use a framing technique to create another image, but few others of them have done nearly as well as this. (#2 & #3) These character posters are bland and not the least bit compelling.

(#4-#5) A pair of character posters that’s a decent, but unexceptional improvement over the previous two. These have a bit more detail, but that’s all that really improves them. (#6) Showcasing the rift between worlds, this poster also feels a bit cheap, something that a beginning art student might have created, not one with years of experience. (#7) Similar to design #6, but even less interesting, using the exact same visages and positions as previous efforts. (#8-#9) These character posters have attempted to create a distinctive artist style, but look like poor knock-offs of comic book covers.

Review: The trailer does a fine job of setting up the film’s premise while creating enough interesting visual details to pull the audience into the theater.

Oscar Prospects:

It all depends on how popular the film is with audiences and with critics. If both turn their back on it, the film is likely to be forgotten. If audiences show, but critics down, then it’s limited to a handful of creative categories with limited opportunities. If both enjoy it, then it could be in for a strong play in the creative categories.
