Review: (#1, C-) The weeping blackness is a strange type of disturbing for a design like this. There’s also not much else to the design worth noting. (#2, C-) While the gothic elements to this design are interesting, the figures poorly inserted into a chaotic backdrop don’t do anything for the effort. (#3, C) Some less frequently used colors do help this design stand out but the titular character isn’t nearly as captivating as he needs to be. (#4, B+) I’m always partial to the use of other types of images to form a semblance of a face. This isn’t done as well as some other efforts have but it’s striking enough to be interesting. (#5, C+) A scene from the film with some affectations to the IMAX logo is a nice change of pace for this format’s designs but there just isn’t enough uniqueness to it. (#6, C+) The titled image is an aggressively bland concept but the Dolby log is nicely rendered. The rest of the image isn’t particularly compelling though.

Review: Remaking a film that has a defined fanbase is a challenge and little in this trailer sets this film apart from that one while establishing it as a go-to film for that audience. It could try to appeal to a younger demographic but this trailer is not a way to do that.
Oscar Prospects:
None.
