Review: (#1, C-) Without the context of the film, this design seems rather pointless. Even knowing about the film’s premise doesn’t make it very interesting. (#2, C+) Once you see the trailer, the origin of this poster seems obvious but it’s off-kilter appearance and the tilt of the lettering, while intriguing, don’t exactly tell the viewer anything about the film itself. That will prevent general interest.

Trailer Rating: B / A-

Review: (#1, B) The trailer employs a fascinating titling motif that makes the film looks fascinating at least from a design perspective. The narrative is poorly conveyed and that will cost it some viewers.

(#2, A-) The musical score accentuates the film’s hard edges and it’s unusual elements while the images paint a vivid picture of the film’s content. It’s intriguing enough to be interesting and while there are some elements that are reminiscent of other post-World War II-set films about prejudice, it feels just different enough to be worth pursuing.

Oscar Prospects:

This got sterling reviews out of the festivals, so it’s bound to be a player but until anyone more broadly sees it, it will be hard to tell how popular it could be.
