Synopsis:

From IMDb: “Vito Genovese and Frank Costello, a pair of Italian Americans who run two separate crime families in the mid-20th century. Genovese attempted to assassinate Costello in 1957, although Costello retired from the mob.”

Review: (#1, C+) A conventional movie poster that tries to make the split-level design feel original. The titling is a bit overbearing but the colors are nicely conveyed and the balance is satisfactory.

Review: (#1, C) It’s hard to imagine this GoodFellas knock-off as something genuine original and necessary. Barry Levinson is an interesting director but his best days are behind him, which is why his name isn’t well highlighted in the trailer. De Niro’s is and this just doesn’t feel like anything but an attempt to relive his most successful crime drama era without putting in the necessary effort.

Oscar Prospects:

The early release suggests a studio that isn’t confident in its Oscar chances in spite of being from a filmmaker and an actor and a genre that have done well with the Academy in the past.
