Poster: C / C+ / C- / B / A (9)
Review: (#1) This generic design is emblematic of the simplistic culture we seem to find ourselves in. It hides the film’s more interesting elements. (#2) There’s an attempt here to be creative and visually striking, but it ultimately feels a tad blase. (#3) It’s nice that this design gives the time element a nod, but it’s a bit too cheesy to be effective. (#4) The concept behind this design is a solid one. The execution is a bit muted, but overall it’s a thoughtful design. (#5-#13) This is where the poster designs become utterly entrancing. Although the film doesn’t put Adaline that far back in history, the concept works incredibly well. Using different styles of photographic techniques for the edges while highlighting how the heroine would change given the time period, it creates a photo album of historic references, which makes a very interesting series.
Trailer: B / B
Review: (#1 & #2) The trailer suffers from a narrator whose voice just doesn’t have the gravitas one would expect for such a hefty narrative conceit. The second trailer cuts out some of the earlier scenes from the first trailer and expands the modern-set ideas a bit more better rounding out the character. These trailer establish that the film is both unique and unabashedly sentimental.
Oscar Prospects:
