Review: I guess if you know something about conducting, this might have a certain appeal to it, but it’s a bit too ill-fitting to entice.

Trailer Rating: D+ / B- / C+

Review: (#1) This film had been put on the back burner during the pandemic and now that it’s finally coming out, it’s shocking just how unimpressive this trailer is. Sure, the narrator reciting dramatic lines is involving, the slow motion shot of Cate Blanchett exhaling a plume of smoke is rather dull and while it ends on an upbeat note with the orchestral conduction segment, that moment goes and goes too quickly to be of any merit.

(#2) It starts off similarly to the first trailer, but digs more into the film itself. Snippets of action and sentiment are brought to the viewer without creating a cohesive concept of the film’s intended purpose.

(#3) The tonal shift is excessive and this latest trailer doesn’t do enough to make the film look compelling. There are some intriguing moments and the soundscape is almost terrifying, but none of that is going to sell the film to a very broad audience.

Oscar Prospects:

Cate Blanchett should always be considered a contender for a dramatic role and while this trailer doesn’t give enough of an indication of the film’s level of quality to make a certain decision on its Oscar chances.
