Synopsis:
From IMDb: “The true story of how the Boston Globe uncovered the massive scandal of child molestation and cover-up within the local Catholic Archdiocese, shaking the entire Catholic Church to its core.”
Poster Rating: A- / C
Review: (#1) The traditional depiction of a newsroom. Hunkered down to unravel a story, these professionals form an exemplification of the work ethic that used to define journalism. It’s a perfectly fitting selection. (#2) Not as poignant or definitive as its predecessor, it works for those who don’t care about journalism, but those folks aren’t likely to watch this film anyway.
Trailer Rating: A
Review: This looks like a riveting, compelling look at scandal within the Catholic Church as exposed by the Boston Globe. Tension, clever dialogue and a sense of immediacy combine to make this one of the most exciting trailers released this year.
Oscar Prospects:
This should be one of the year’s key Oscar competitors. A raft of prominent stars taking on a major journalistic story that defined a generation. It might be compared to the likes of All the President’s Men, but if it’s at all good, which the trailer suggests it is, then look for it to be a primary competitor this year.
