Review: (#1, C) The vacant spacing doesn’t make for an appealing design. While that draws the viewer’s attention to the central figures, it doesn’t tell them anything about the film itself.

(#2, C+) Palace doors, large beasts and a daughter trying to make things better. All of this ties into the film without improving the viewer’s interest in it.

Trailer Rating: C+ / C

Review: (#1, C+) The shameless exultation of past accomplishments from John Lasseter are grating as nothing in this film reminds favorably of his Pixar-aligned work. While it certainly looks better than his film Luck, this film still feels a bit antiquated and over-kiddified.

(#2, C) An old-fashioned animated feature narrative that pulls out the cute elements but with mediocre vocal acting and cheesy effects. It’s as if the film were made with 2024 technology using 2004 material. It might appeal to youngsters but not to the adults who make an exception for Pixar films.

Oscar Prospects:

Original animated films always have a chance but the persona-non-grata status of John Lasseter could doom the film’s chances.
