Review: The first design, although it’s more generic than the others, at least tries to create a generationally-appealing design. The second and third design, in spite of being more “artistic,” are less interesting and in tandem less appealing.

Review: If this is just a rehash of what was already presented in The Bible why does it need to be isolated and rebroadcast as a feature film? A cash grab for religious folk is all this is. Watching this trailer, I cannot say I wasn’t inspired. It’s well constructed and should have little problem appealing to the target demographic. However, this particular story has been told many times over the years, so it further suggests, in my mind, that the entire purpose of this spectacle is to make the producers boat loads of money while making those of faith feel like someone’s actually appealing to their motion picture desires. This is like the comic book reboot of the Christian set.
Oscar Prospects:
The last Bible-themed film to score nominations at the Oscars was The Passion of the Christ, which nabbed a handful. Before that, you have Martin Scorsese’s The Last Temptation of Christ, which received only one nomination for its director. From there back, you only find nominations for the major “Epic” Bible films of that Golden Era around the time of The Ten Commandments. That infrequency should give us pause, but what will really keep this film away from the Oscars it that a bigger event picture, Noah is already certain to score nominations in the creative and tech categories, meaning Hollywood’s more likely to shift that direction for recognition than this. These aren’t the Emmys, after all.
