Review: (#1, C+) While it has a conventional quality and the overlarge face eliminates the potential for background detail, the torn quality is well handled and will certainly generate the interest among fans of the original.
(#2, C+) The designs for this film have been on the whole solid but weak in many aspects. This one suffers from a lack of background detail and with the blood-draining hands a bit weird of a choice. The inset of the main characters eyes certainly help sell the film better than anything else.
(#3, B-) While this design has a lot of deficiencies, specifically the white background, the effort to create something unique is appreciated and paired with this particular smiling image, it is a bit unnerving. (#4, C) That same figure in a background doesn’t have the same excitement factor and it inadvertently becomes cheap-looking. (#5, C-) Normally, I cover each of the format-specific designs in one combined comment but this one is such unnecessarily bad that it deserved its own harangue. (#6, C) While not as creative as some of the earlier designs, some effort was at least put into this one to make it fit the theme even if unsuccessfully. (#7, C-) Their attempt to be clever with two smiles just falls flat when neither is interesting looking and the combined design and limits color scheme only make them look worse. (#8, C) This is at least a more interesting attempt to tie into the smiling title but it relies on those same three colors that make so many designs seem unoriginal.
Trailer Rating: B- / C+ / C

Review: (#1, B-) With a musical accompaniment and soundscape that creates some measure of tension, this trailer does a fine job setting expectations without giving too much of the plot away. Those who enjoyed the original film are sure to be onboard with this sequel after this trailer.
(#2, C+) There is some new material in this trailer but it all feels very familiar, like we’ve seen it all before. That might make it difficult to pull the audience in outside of fans of the original film.
(#3, C) If you were already interested in the film, this trailer won’t change your mind. The same is true if you weren’t interested. The design earns no new converts by expressing the same information the viewer already has.
Oscar Prospects:
None.
