Review: (#1) This is a bit ostentatious, which is perfect for an Elton John biopic. It does capture the essence of the singer and while the colors aren’t the best, they aren’t bad.
(#2) Sitting at his piano and playing to an audience with downplayed sequins. Interesting, but not engaging. (#3) Somewhat sparkly, but also dull and uninspired. (#4) Sequined before an adoring crowd. It speaks to Elton John’s popularity, but not to the film’s quality.
Trailer Rating: B- / A-

Review: (#1) “Based on a real fantasy” is probably the most apt description of any film dealing with the exceedingly flamboyant Elton John. Whether this is an actual biopic or a fantasy musical remains to be seen as the teaser suggests either is a possibility.
(#2) The first trailer was an interesting fantasia of images. The second gives us a glimpse into the details of the film, making this look like a fascinating biopic about Elton John’s life with a larger than life performance from Taron Egerton. It looks a bit too much like Bohemian Rhapsody, but perhaps it could be better.
Oscar Prospects:
It’s a bit early to know for sure and the May release suggests otherwise, but this could be a change for Taron Egerton to compete for his role as Elton John.
