Review: Like many posters, the wall hangings are seldom more interesting than the trailers. This poster doesn’t focus on black, white and red like many others, it uses the balanced colors of yellow and green with red used sparingly. Still, there’s nothing interesting or original about it.

Trailer Rating: C

Review: The film looks and sounds too much like The Squid and the Whale. Instead of novelist parents, we see musician parents. Instead of on one troubled child in a library, we have one on a debating team. There will certainly be critics who applaud the film for its honesty and originality, but unless it diverges significantly from Squid, it’s going to have some significant problems.

Oscar Prospects:

I don’t know if another youths-in-crisis art film will capture Oscar attentions, but it’s unlikely that it will with all of the other artsy fare out there this year.
