Review: (#1) The concept is familiar to anyone who’s seen the trailer, but there’s nothing that really sells it to the uninitiated.

(#2) Speaks minimally to the film’s content and doesn’t feel like an interesting marketing tool. (#3) A poorly crafted, cheaply design poster that overlays various figures, sets them in the background, and ultimately feels like it was rushed. (#4-#7) This series of character posters sets the environments for the characters well, but they lack visual panache.

Trailer Rating: B+ / B

Review: (#1) The snappy choreography is the best part of the trailer which seems crassly crafted in some ways. Musicals struggle to find an audience and while this almost succeeds, there’s something inauthentic about it that might create some audience hostility.

(#2) The musical elements are poorly used, though we do get a nice recitation of plot circumstances. It’s a setup without a genuine appeal to the aural interests of the audience. The limited singing and dancing moments are reserved for important moments, but they don’t quite express the film’s essence.

Oscar Prospects:

It all depends on how good the film is. If it’s a smashing success critically and at the box office, it could be a major player.
