Review: (#1) Apart from being well-lit, this design doesn’t have the visual or distinctive flair one would expect for a film of this magnitude.

(#2) A more elegant poster design than the first, it has that titular phantom quality, but doesn’t exactly shout “watch me!”

Trailer Rating: C+

Review: A relationship drama about an older man and a younger woman is played out, even if it’s in the fashion industry. The trailer doesn’t do a sufficient job drumming up excitement for it, except in the eyes of Paul Thomas Anderson fans.

Oscar Prospects:

Daniel Day-Lewis is said to be retiring after this film. That would make him a sure bet for an Oscar nomination and possibly for his fourth Oscar, making him the most honored actor in Oscar history and tying Katharine Hepburn. The problem with that is that Day-Lewis’ career, although lauded, isn’t nearly as long as it needs to be in order to make that record possible. Further, this looks to be Gary Oldman’s year. Other than Day-Lewis, the film is sure to be at least in contention thanks to director Paul Thomas Anderson’s long-running Oscar history.
