Review: (#1) Walking amidst the fallout clouds is an interesting design choice, but not particularly compelling. (#2) This, on the other hand, does a much better job of conveying the essence of the film even if it, too, is rather rudimentary.

(#3) The orange motif of the poster fits to the color scheme of the trailer, but it feels ill-fitting to the poster with this massive devices with wires protruding and lights embellishing. It also overuses the particle effects of cinders, which don’t quite feel appropriate even though they are.

(#4-#5) The orange theming of the poster designs is fitting, though perhaps a bit overbearing. The first has a more visually striking design while the second is more relevant to the viewer.

Trailer Rating: B- / B

Review: (#1) There are a lot of strong images in this trailer, but they aren’t adequately cobbled together to make a coherent or compelling story.

(#2) The narrative of the film is given a little more punch than previously, embellished with shots of explosions and other events in hopes that Christopher Nolan’s legion of fans will become interested in what is essentially a period historical drama with minimal action elements.

Oscar Prospects:

It’s Christopher Nolan, so you should consider it penciled in for several craft categories. The most obvious are Visual Effects and Sound, but Production Design, Costume Design, Cinematography, Film Editing, and Original Score are also possible. Then, with that haul, a Best Picture nomination may be possible.
