Review: (#1, C+) Three panels divided by white lines and all effectively, but dully, highlighting the actors in the film. (#2, C) Even more dullness in this more unified, but bulkier effort. (#3, C-) The lack of background isn’t as overwhelming as it could be thanks to color selection, which fits with Anthony Hopkins’ sweater. That said, there’s not enough to this design to be memorable. (#4, C) Take the second design, remove Helena Bonham Carter, and expand the narrative impact of the lower half and you have a poster that’s at least somewhat more engaging than some of the prior designs.

Trailer Rating: C+

Review: (#1, C+) When a Holocaust film looks like it’s trying too hard, you can’t help but get the despairing feeling that they are trying to capitalize on a tragedy rather than review the efforts of those who tried to prevent it or to protect others. While the film could be better than it appears, the trailer doesn’t give enough hope of that.

Oscar Prospects:

You should never count out Anthony Hopkins and this film seems like the kind of thing he’d get recognized for. That said, the film’s March release is concerning as many that release this early, especially “prestige” pictures don’t make it to the end.
