Release Date:

Synopsis:
From IMDb: “A drama centered on three environmentalists who plot to blow up a dam.”
Poster: B- / C / C+
Review: The second poster is the worst of the first three I’ve posted. It’s generic and inexplicably boring and more confusing is that it comes from a foreign market, where better posters often originate. The third design at least attempts some originality in terms of spacing, positioning and overall design elements. It’s not a great design, but it’s different. The first poster is more mysterious and thereby more interesting. It’s not a superb design, but when you have a thriller set on a lake or reservoir or any body of water, an empty boat makes things feel more tense.
Trailer: B+
Review: The tension is ratcheted very high. They give brief hints as to the trio’s purpose on the lake, but you have to piece things together on your own. The slow, building pace further enhances the tightness and riveting potential of the material.
Oscar Prospects:
Kelly Reichardt has flirted with Oscar before, but if perennial Oscar nominee Michelle Williams couldn’t get nominated for Wendy & Lucy, a serious character drama, the cast and production of a thriller isn’t likely to please Oscar voters either.
Revisions:
(May 4, 2014) Original
