Synopsis:

From IMDb: “To a growing number of Mexicans and Latinos in the Americas, narco traffickers have become iconic outlaws and the new models of fame and success. They represent a pathway out of the ghetto – a new form of the American Dream, fueled by the war on drugs. NARCO CULTURA looks at this explosive phenomenon from within; cycles of addiction to money, drugs and violence that are rapidly gaining strength on both sides of the US/Mexican border.”

Poster: C / B-

Review: The first design tries to highlight the violence surrounding the drug war, but it’s limited in scope and visceral detail. The second design better embodies the purpose of the film to highlight a new style of Mexican music emerging out of the exceedingly violent region.

Trailer: C+

Review: While you feel the danger in which the filmmakers have placed themselves in order to capture the hyper-violent and deadly “Narco Culture,” the sudden shift to musicians using the violence as inspiration for a new type of music is a bait-and-switch confusing the ultimate purpose of the film’s existence.

Oscar Prospects:

None.
