Review: (#1) A strong visual work with plenty of rich detail. For animated films, that’s a key selling component. (#2) This is more minimal and doesn’t have nearly the degree of compelling design fortitude to make it a striking evocation of the work.
Trailer Rating: C+

Review: There’s some impressive artwork on display here, however the film feels a little more subdued than recent Japanese-style successes. It might have something potent to say, but the trailer doesn’t do an adequate job of selling that.
Oscar Prospects:
It’s a GKids release, so it could be a player, especially since it has a strong appreciation of art and the creative process, but the competition is incredibly strong this year and GKids may find itself left out entirely.
