Review: (#1) This French design uses the unfortunate red-orange color that doesn’t play well with the theme, though the inverse element to the two images is rather interesting thematically. (#2) The film’s themes do not come through well with this design and there’s generally nothing about this that makes the film seem compelling.

(#3) The inversion of the figures has thematic relevance, but they are so cheaply set against one another that it feels uninspired.

Trailer Rating: C / B

Review: (#1) This cheap teaser briefly presents the film to the audience without any narrative direction, a double dose of Todd Haynes recognition and the identification of its two stars only one of whom gets a prominent placement. It’s such a shabby looking affair, which is not a sentence you ever use with Haynes’ films.

(#2) The first trailer was perhaps too odd for most audiences while this trailer is far more accessible. We get perhaps too much of the plot, but it should be enough to intrigue fans of Todd Haynes, though interest beyond that demographic is limited.

Oscar Prospects:

Todd Haynes has an uneven history with the Academy. He never makes it into the Best Picture or Directing races, even when deserved, but his actors should always be considered threats for nomination.
