Poster Rating: C-

Review: There’s nothing appealing or interesting about this poster. It’s only a pic of star Christopher Plummer in a plug at trying to get him Oscar recognition. It’s unlikely the film will generate such now and the poster only serves to display its failed hopes…and the festival laurels at the bottom don’t help.

Trailer Rating: C+

Review: There’s a certain feeling of “Look at Me” to this production. It’s designed to appeal to older film fans who understand the desire to want to relive their misspent youths. I can’t say that the film looks more than text book Youth/Mentor fare, even with a film school bent.

Oscar Prospects:

It’s as if the film were made to directly appeal for Oscar attention for Christopher Plummer, Robert Wagner and M. Emmet Walsh. I think Academy voters will see through the lame attempt at acting nominations, but M. Emmet Walsh has been doing great character work for years and with a few critic prizes, he could emerge as a potential nominee. Plummer’s got to compete with other more high profile contenders for Best Actor, including the so far more praied Frank Langella in the similarly-baity Starting Out in the Evening.
