Poster Rating: D+
Review: Sparkly and bold, but hardly inventive. This is the kind of title-only poster that is purposefully uncomplicated and it doesn’t help much. It may entice Abba fans or those familiar with the musical, but it isn’t likely to pull others to the theater.
Trailer Rating: C+; B
Review: I’m sure there are fans of the Broadway tuner that are going to be excited, but the preview really does not make the big screen adaptation look that interesting. It also only highlights one of the songs from the production and that’s the title track. Who knows if it will be any good, but it could be a sleeper in the way that Hairspray was.
As far as second trailers go, this is a much better outing for the film. It makes it seem like a far more interesting musical experience. This preview capitalizes more on Meryl Streep’s name. With more information about the plot surfacing, it gets a decent bit more exciting.
Oscar Prospects:
This film will be next summer’s Hairspray. It will likely be wildly popular, but easily forgotten at Oscar time.
