Synopsis:
From IMDb: “Dale, Kurt and Nick decide to start their own business but things don’t go as planned because of a slick investor, prompting the trio to pull off a harebrained and misguided kidnapping scheme.”
Poster: B / B+ / B- (3)
Review: (#1) It’s a solid riff on the prior film’s design, which will easily build brand recognition. Additionally, it gives small hints to the plot changes that will feature in the new film.
(#2) The cast comes together in the best sales tool the film has, though it’s so flimsily staged that I can’t imagine anyone jumping for joy at seeing the film. (#3-#5) We get the main cast of the film in three easily digestible character posters that take the overriding color designs and use them in each outing. The backgrounds aren’t very distinctive and they have limited individual appeal, but they work as well as can be expected.
Trailer: B- / B- / B
Review: (#1 & #2) Neither trailer is particularly superior to the other. They both touch on differing bits of humor from the film and they nicely segue from the prior adventure to the new one. The humor doesn’t seem as solidly entertaining as the first film, which might cause it problems with fans of the first film, but it might be enough to get them to the theater anyway.
(#3) Playing up the humor more adequately this time, fans of the original should find plenty of reasons to get excited about the film. Whether it’s as effective at selling the sequel as the prior installment’s advertising was will remain to be seen.
Oscar Prospects:
None.
