Synopsis:
From IMDb: “A medical engineer and an astronaut work together to survive after an accident leaves them adrift in space.”
Poster: B
Review: It’s not surprising that the poster design reminds me a great deal of 2001: A Space Odyssey. I’m sure the similarities are not entirely coincidental. The reason that film’s design has endured for 45 years is why this poster design works quite well.
Trailer: B / B+
Review: The first teaser that circulated showcased the peacefulness and beauty of being above the Earth’s surface while then focusing on the potential dangers associated with space walking. It’s a decently thrilling introduction.
Finding yourself lost in the second is a exciting and terrifying scene of losing control and drifint into the vastness of space with no hope of stopping. It’s a teaser of a different calibre and should do well at stoking the imagination of audiences.
Oscar Prospects:
It’s hard to peg where this one will fall with the Academy. With Elysium competing for the sci-fi pole position this year, Alfonso Cuaron will have some stiff competition. Still, if critics love both films and fete them strongly, I could see both doing well with Oscar voters.
