Review: (#1, C+) Lots of bold colors, with words from the various locations the film visits, is an interesting choice, especially when standing out against the black-and-white background of one of the film’s images. (#2, B-) Rather than putting words from the locales on the poster like the first design (an unfortunate diversion and missed opportunity (using the same colors for each and pairing them up across from one another on the design)), they let them dwell in minimalism on the edges with photographs making up the main element of the effort. It’s appealing in its distinctiveness but lacks relative creative energy. (#3, C) Cineastes who saw this might be reminded of Fitzcarraldo but that isn’t likely to bring them to the film. It might have the faint look of a worn piece of parchment or film still but that’s going to leave a lasting impression. (#4, C) Take away the lovely font work of the prior design and make the characters more distinct isn’t the improvement someone might have thought it would be. (#5, C+) A nice array of colors to with the smattering of black-and-white images and while it has some style to its wavy aesthetic, the sloppy titling isn’t going to draw much attention.

Review: (#1, C+) A chaotic mélange of images that seem disconnected fill the spaces of this high-minded art film. It feels like it wants to be compared to the naturalism of Italian Neorelaism and the absurdity of the French New Waves without finding a way to stand on its own.

Oscar Prospects:

A festival award doesn’t guarantee Oscar attention and I doubt it will get a nomination.
