Release Date:
February 13, 2015
Synopsis:
From IMDb: “Literature student Anastasia Steele’s life changes forever when she meets handsome, yet tormented, billionaire Christian Grey.”
Poster: B / C+ / B- / C / C-
Review: (#1) It’s mysterious and features plenty of clean lines, which sets up the sharp contrast of the figure in the center who is anything but linear.
(#2) The lip biting romantic trope has been played out and when you back that with utterly generic flourish, you don’t have much chance at success. (#3) While this ties more literally into the film’s themes, it’s barely passable as a trailer. It’s not particularly sexy or seductive. (#4-#5) The only real difference between the English and Asian posters is that the Asian flushes it with more color, which makes it more palpable, but without necessity.
Trailer: C/ C+
Review: (#1) If you’re a fan of the book, perhaps this trailer got you titillated. If you aren’t, then you’re probably wondering what you’re being exposed to. It’s neither hair raising or exciting, unless you’re already into that kind of thing.
(#2) Another toothless trailer that will appeal to fans of the book but to no one else. This one at least sneaks in a few more kinky visuals, but it’s otherwise it just looks like a milquetoast romantic drama.
Oscar Prospects:
None.
