Synopsis:
From IMDb: “Film star Vince Chase and his cronies take on Hollywood.”
Poster: C- / C / B- (5) / C- / B
Review: (#1) Another colossal tease for a movie that requires you to be familiar with the television series. That’s not going to help people want to see the film.
(#2) A slight improvement over its predecessor, these poster designs just don’t spark the imagination, but that my have more to do with the film’s TV-bound roots than any lack of skill on designers’ parts.
(#3-#7) Surprisingly, these character designs are among the film’s best ads. They are structured similarly, but contain enough varied content to be appealing. (#8) On the other hand, we have another simplistic, title-evoking image that isn’t particularly exciting. (#9) This design has potential. It invites you to join these fellows in their cruise through Hollywood, though there doesn’t seem to be enough room in that back seat.
Trailer: C / C+
Review: (#1) The bait-and-switch technique goes on too long before finding its purpose and by that point, the audience isn’t that interested. Tonally, the trailer feels uneven and the humor is muted. They give characters enough wiggle room to be familiar to those who know the TV show, but not for anyone else. That can’t be a very big market.
(#2) A little more interesting than the first trailer, but not by much. This film looks every bit like the TV-to-movie transfer that it is. It appears to be a small time premise over-broadened to mass audience disinterest.
Oscar Prospects:
None.
