Review: (#1, C+) A fitting expression of the Deadpool love for Wolverine and thus a solid, if plain teaser.
(#2, C) The poster isn’t exactly subtle with its Deadpool-loves-Wolverine idea but it works well enough. If only it weren’t such a dull backdrop.
(#3-#4, B-) This is somewhat reminiscent of the design work done for X-Men: Days of Future Past. In those designs, it was the X across the faces delineating past and future selves. These, it’s just a reflection of the opponent. Certainly an interesting concept but that white background is a bit overbearing.
(#5, C+) Unless you’re familiar with the purpose of saint candles, this design doesn’t carry much weight. Even with that knowledge, it’s unclear what the intent is except in appealing to Hispanic Catholics. (#6, C) The rivalry is real, the background detail is not. (#7-#12) Every movie now has to have a batch of format-specific poster designs and, as is almost always the case, the efforts are a mixed bag ranging from mediocre to satisfactory. Nothing in this group excels. (#13, C+) This crayon drawing is something new and it works surprisingly well, bringing in a small number of intriguing elements. Perhaps a bit too simple but at least it’s eye-catching. (#14, C+) It would seem like this is play on Beauty and the Beast with the open question of which of these men is the beast and which is the beauty. Might have been more thematically appropriate had it been with actual Beast from the comics but he probably isn’t in the movie. (#15, C) More of the same with all of the filler. (#16-#18, C+) This triptych of hand-drawn designs are visually appealing but thematically questionable. (#19, C+) A host of interesting bumper stickers. A few are a bit risquรฉ but all of them are at least interesting enough to draw the passer-by in though not perhaps enough to get them to buy a ticket.

Review: (#1, B-) While the traditional Deadpool humor is there and so are the jabs at Disney, the surprising utterance of the word “fuck” instantly save a fairly drab trailer with too much of a tease to the Wolverine character in the title.
(#2, B) Getting more information about the film’s premise is helpful but it doesn’t get genuinely funny until Leslie Uggams arrives and then the humor we’ve come to love about the film finally comes through.
(#3, C+) While funnier in total than some of the prior efforts, the limited scope of the trailer makes it feel truncated and ineffectual.
(#4, C+) Not quite the laugh-fest some prior trailers have been, this focus on Wolverine’s position in the X-Men Marvel universe is a bit overbearing and that reflects poorly on the film itself. It also makes the whole thing feel like yet another “ending” for the Wolverine character.
Oscar Prospects:
None.
