Review: (#1) Disney’s fascination with white backgrounds and significant details in the foreground, but without creative energy, is a plague on poster design. We know who it is, but we don’t know its significance with this design.

(#2) Establishes place and character, but is quite dull and lifeless. (#3) That blank white background is ugly, but fans of the characters will definitely be interested as a result of seeing this design.

(#4) They are indeed doing nothing as the quote suggests, but it’s a bland sort of nothing, almost forgettable. (#5) The human characters to terribly poised, looking rather fake in an attempt to create a sense of movement. (#6-#10) This series of character posters will pique the interests of fans of the characters and setting them each at different spots in London works well enough, but they also feel limited and stale. (#11) Another design that suggests everyday mundanity interrupted by Pooh. It’s not a great design, but it’s decent enough.

Trailer Rating: C+ / B+

Review: (#1) As the first trailer for a film about a grown-up Christopher Robin is weak and uninspiring until the final moment when we hear Winnie the Pooh speak and by that point, the audience shouldn’t be expected to care. Perhaps a subsequent trailer will be more enthralling.

(#2) The voices are enchanting, the premise is interesting, and the visuals are solid. For any fan of Winnie the Pooh or the other creations of Disney, this should be quite appealing.

Oscar Prospects:

Always think about Disney’s films as Oscar contenders even if they don’t seem like it up front. Visual Effects is probably the best option for this film when Mary Poppins Returns is likely to be the more dominant Disney live action release this year.
