Review: (#1, C) This design will appeal primarily to cineastes. You have to know who Brando, Bertlucci, and The Last Tango in Paris are to even have a hope of knowing what the film is about and even then you might not quite grasp the idea behind it. It’s a very staid design that won’t really appeal broadly.

Review: (#1, B-) The controversy of The Last Tango in Paris is certainly a ripe playground for filmmakers. It takes some intriguing moments of cinema history and gives it voice. However, this film tackles that from a different perspective and makes the viewer wonder if they’ve missed something important about the story. It’s a conventional narrative presented in an albeit intriguing way. While it isn’t likely to bring in non-cineaste viewers, it could have be appealing to that narrow demographic.
Oscar Prospects:
None.
