Review: (#1, B) There isn’t a lot to this design but fans of the original will certainly have their curiosity piqued. It’s a fitting teaser.
(#2, B-) Another design that makes sense for fans of the original with an intriguing chained water container that promises something new. (#3-#10) What’s strange is that with the creative energy of the first two posters, the individual character posters are bland and unoriginal.
(#11, B-) Fans of the original will see enough details to generate excitement but that vacant backdrop and the sparse embellishments don’t create a terribly appealing effort.
(#12, B) Would it not be cool to walk into your local theater with a line of people standing in a hallway such as this? That alone makes this design pop while tying itself into the film effectively. (#13-#14, C+) Meanwhile, these other two format-specific designs tie into the film but are exceedingly dull.
Trailer Rating: B / B / A-

Review: (#1, B) As a teaser, there are some elements here that work. The children’s choir’s take on “Day-o” is interesting and establishing a tone is as well; however, the reveal of an aged Beetlejuice doesn’t tell us enough about the plot to get a grip on whether it will be a natural follow up or just a step on the road towards “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” the likely third film in the series.
(#2, B) While the “Day-o” refrain is used once again, it’s quickly shifted off of, which helps the trailer breathe a bit more rather than stagnating. There are a lot more visual connections to the original film while presenting the premise effectively. It seems a bit too similar to the prior in some ways but the potential is still there and fans of the original should be ready for its sequel by its September release date.
(#3, A-) A bit heavy-handed at times in its fan service but the overall thrust of the trailer, which has some measure of the film’s plot involved, helps to guide this film towards a solid box office return for those who will be excited for its tongue-in-cheek nature and the long missing Tim Burton aesthetic and humor.
Oscar Prospects:
Makeup & Hairstyling seem like a given and Sound and Visual Effects are also possible. There’s a distant possibility for Production Design and Costume Design as well.
