Review: (#1) The opening scene is meant to catch Oscar voters and tell them that this film will be an acting tour de force. Unfortunately, for the rest of us, the end result is a film that looks tedious, predictable, and over-wrought at times. It could be much better than it looks, but the trailer’s not going to goose interest.

(#2) With more heart and drama in the new trailer, this film looks far broader than it did in the prior trailer, giving us an idea that Steve Carell and Timothée Chalamet have a lot of acting to do.

Oscar Prospects:

Steve Carell and Timothée Chalamet are both Oscar contenders, but the film doesn’t necessarily look that appealing in terms of its Oscar chances.
