Review: (#1, C+) There are cases to be made where complex poster design is better, there are a handful that have the idea to execute simply without feeling oversimplified. This one almost hits that sweet spot with a thematically compelling lower two-thirds. The upper third also works but less spectacularly, which brings the whole design down a bit. (#2, C) Then there are simple designs that do almost nothing. This one may introduce the characters and the use of orange rather than red for the lone spot of color in the design but never feels like a compelling effort. (#3, C) This one doesn’t make much sense without the frame of reference of the trailer. The Liev Schrieber head doesn’t fit organically with the other choices even if it works somewhat well thematically. (#4, C) Taking the more atmospheric second design and turning it into a color effort wasn’t the best choice but adding the actor insets at the top definitely makes the emptiness of that prior design less distracting.

Trailer Rating: C+

Review: (#1, C+) The age difference between the leads is worrisome and while the concept has some merit to it, the trailer makes the film look overly familiar. Having solid actors in the case might elevate the material a bit, but the trailer doesn’t give the audience sufficient hope.

Oscar Prospects:

None.
