Review: (#1, C) An obscenely large title that tells the viewer less than the title does.

(#2, C+) It does set some of the stakes and the look of fright adds to the design but it is so unnecessarily minimal that it doesn’t appeal. (#3, B-) This design requires the audience to study it more closely to identify the setting and the peril but it has more of an action vibe than the prior, which gives some sense of chaos to a film that should thrive on it.

(#4-#6, C+) These simple images of every day life in New York City have an intriguing quality to them with their admonition not to talk. Fitting perhaps but there isn’t much to any of them. (#7, B-) An interesting effort with a fascinating series of thematic references, an intriguing nod to the soundscape with the overbearing nature of the double-D’s of the Dolby logo. It’s a good effort but might have been more interesting where more audiences familiar with the concept at work here. (#8, C+) The D-Box reference in a pseudo-spray paint aesthetic is undermined by the definitely not spray painted title on the floor. (#9, C) A rehash of a prior design with aggressive titling doesn’t add anything of merit. (#10, C) The strange feline focus of this poster isn’t likely to have the desired effect. Audiences aren’t going to flood to the theater just to see a cat.

Trailer Rating: B- / B+ / C+

Review: (#1, B-) While there is some tension surrounding the various characters trying to escape the aliens who navigate based on sound, the sometimes uneven soundscape is trying too hard to create tension and energy.

(#2, B+) Establishing much of the premise in a single trailer can take away some of the intensity of the film itself but the thrills and excitement of the film come through much better in this outing with plenty to give fans of the series something to root for. It’s also interesting that this is the only series that has gone successively farther back in time as it goes rather than forward, which is an interesting way of going about it.

(#3, C+) Leaning into the shushing notion, the trailer does quite a good job conveying the film’s whispering concept but it doesn’t give the audience much over which to react, making it a poor “final” trailer.

Oscar Prospects:

None.
