The Grammy Awards have dozens of categories and all eyes will be on the traditional music prizes, but they also give out awards for visual media. They have four categories, all of which will likely be handed out before the primary show begins. We will find out Sunday night regardless who wins. Here are thoughts on those categories.

GRAMMY AWARDS

Best Music Film

I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead
The Beatles: Eight Days a Week The Touring Years (RU:Wesley, RU:Peter, RU:Thomas)
Lemonade (Wesley, Peter, Thomas)
The Music of Strangers
American Saturday Night: Live from the Grand Ole Opry

Wesley Lovell: Lemonade was the smash hit of the year in terms of music films and Beyoncรฉ is a goddess in the music industry, so her victory seems assured. The Beatles, by the simple fact of being one of the most prominent bands in music history cannot be counted out, nor could an en masse vote of country voters picking the Grand Ole Opry doc.
Peter J. Patrick: No commentary provided.
Tripp Burton: No commentary or predictions provided.
Thomas LaTourette: I think that Beyonceโ€™s Lemonade will win over the documentary about the Beatles.

Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media

Amy (Peter, RU:Wesley, RU:Tripp, RU:Thomas)
Miles Ahead
Straight Outta Compton (Wesley, Tripp, Thomas, RU:Peter)
Suicide Squad (Collector’s Edition)
Vinyl: The Essentials Season 1

Wesley Lovell: Straight Outta Compton is more likely to gain a lot of respect from this group, considering the historical nature of the film and its subjects. Amy is also a possibility since it was one of 2015’s major productions. Some voters could give a shout out to Miles Davis voting for his biopic, but the musicality of the Vinyl soundtrack might also pique a few interests.
Peter J. Patrick: I have no idea on this one, just going with the seemingly most popular.
Tripp Burton: I would assume one of the music biographies wins here, but whch one?
Thomas LaTourette: This feels like a battle between the two biopics, one documentary and one more fictional. Compton might win over Amy.

Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media

Bridge of Spies (Peter)
The Hateful Eight (Wesley, Tripp, Thomas, RU:Peter)
The Revenant
Star Wars: The Force Awakens (RU:Thomas)
Stranger Things Volume 1 (RU:Wesley, RU:Tripp)

Wesley Lovell: 2015’s Oscar winner The Hateful Eight would seem to have a built-in advantage over the other 2015 releases, though the TV series soundtrack for Stranger Things is more recent and possibly more generally popular.
Peter J. Patrick: Probably Oscar winner Morricone, but I’ll go out on a limb and predict an upset for Newman.
Tripp Burton: My hunch would be last year’s Oscar winner takes this, but Stranger Things keeps creeping up in these awards and I wouldn’t count it out.
Thomas LaTourette: This is mostly a collection of last yearโ€™s score nominees, so I expect it will follow the same trajectory and The Hateful Eight will best Star Wars.

Best Song Written for Visual Media

Can’t Stop the Feeling – Trolls (Wesley, Peter, Tripp, Thomas)
Heathens – Suicide Squad (RU:Wesley)
Just Like Fire – Alice Through the Looking Glass
Purple Lamborghini – Suicide Squad
Try Everything – Zootopia (RU:Peter, RU:Tripp, RU:Thomas)
The Veil – Snowden

Wesley Lovell: Justin Timberlake is a huge recording act and without a song from La La Land in competition, the other options just don’t have quite the same appeal, though “Heathens” was also quite popular.
Peter J. Patrick: Can’t stop “Can’t Stop the Feeling” despite an urge to “Try Everything”.
Tripp Burton: The Oscar-nominated song from Trolls probably won’t win on Oscar night, but this is a good consolation prize.
Thomas LaTourette: This is an odd set of nominees. I am guessing that the upbeat Justin Timberlake number from Trolls might win.
