It was clear from the outset, along with the slew of technical awards that La La Land received that it would be the big winner of the night. It is now positioned heading into the Oscar race as the film to beat, but it was that before these awards. Natalie Portman may have won here and will win a Golden Globe opposite Emma stone in the Comedy/Musical; However, it may be up to the Screen Actors Guild to decide. Most of the other awards went as expected, meaning that we may be in for a very dull Oscar season.
