Review: (#1) Are you that frightened by this image? Not likely. She’s startled, sure, and she’s trying not to breathe, but lacking any and all creativity isn’t that excited. Perhaps it is actually frightening, just not in the way it intends.
(#2) What makes this design strong is that it’s dark and foreboding without being excessive. The visage in the background isn’t perfect, but combine all of the elements and you have something that could compel a lot of people to want to check it out. (#3) The cheapness of the visual design makes for a corny and ill-fitting design. (#4) The only reason this is better than design #1 is that the colors are slightly brighter, but even that’s not really an improvement.
Trailer Rating: C+ / B-

Review: (#1) The trailer doesn’t get to the gimmick until half way through and by that time, you aren’t nearly as engaged as you could be. The gimmick isn’t that interesting, but the rest of the trailer holds a modest amount of promise.
(#2) This trailer does a better job giving us a picture of a film that is more than a simple gimmick. There are strong scenes presented in this trailer that create tension and showcase inventiveness. That could be just enough to get more people into the theater.
Oscar Prospects:
None.
