Review: (#1) I know that what I’m looking for in a movie is a color challenged, somewhat faded woman looking at nothing with a massive title font that only features one word and then puts the full title in tiny font. That’s exactly what works for me.

(#2) This poster is posed to look like a portrait painted by the film’s central character of his paramour. It isn’t a particularly exciting design.

(#3) Not much different from prior designs, Dane DeHaan is poorly PhotoShopped into this one, which makes it a decidedly inferior effort.

Trailer Rating: C / C+ / B+

Review: (#1) Your garden variety Edwardian love story of convenient marriages, passionate affairs and actors with too much passion for too little reward.

(#2) This second trailer conveys more of the film’s premise and sets up a lot of drama, but also makes it feel very lethargic and slow-moving, which isn’t the kind of movie that sells well these days.

(#3) Perhaps had the first two trailers taken their cues from this unnecessarily red band-labeled trailer, it might have had a better chance in the heart of Oscar season. As it stands, the film’s sultry passions and rich tapestry of conflict will be forgotten, though that may be due to other reasons that this trailer happily overlooks.

Oscar Prospects:

None.
