Premise: From IMDb: “The group NWA emerges from the mean streets of Compton in Los Angeles, California, in the mid-1980s and revolutionizes Hip Hop culture with their music and tales about life in the hood.”
Oscar Chances: Uncertain: A strong reception out of the gate soon gave way to strong box office and eventually sniping over its misogyny. While that shouldn’t keep it out of the competition, films about the music industry don’t often do well with the Academy. It might be able to pick up a few minor nominations and a Best Picture nod isn’t out of the question, but its chances are weaker than they might have been a month or more ago.
