Synopsis:
From IMDb: “Life changes for Malcolm, a geek who’s surviving life in a tough neighborhood, after a chance invitation to an underground party leads him and his friends into a Los Angeles adventure.”
Poster: C / C+ / B- (7)
Review: (#1) Friends strolling through a California neighborhood on bicycles is an idyllic image, but one without a lot of substance within the context of the film. (#2) An interesting visual representation of the title and its 1990’s roots, but that’s all it really is. (#3-#9) These designs almost seem a part of the 1970’s in spite of being played as a reminiscence of the 1990’s. Yet, they are still visually audacious enough to stop passersby to give the film a look.
Trailer: B / B
Review: (#1) The first trailer acts as a tease for the film, refusing to give the lead character name, but setting us firmly within the confines of the film’s setting, without giving us too much about the film’s plot. (#2) This is followed by a solid trailer that does similar work while finally giving us the details we need to form an impression of whether to see the film or not and it mostly delivers on that goal.
Oscar Prospects:
None.
