Synopsis:

Review: (#1) A stylized, but uneventful poster design that evokes Gothic horror elements without committing to them.

(#2) This poster is at once both inviting and menacing and that plays perfectly well into the film’s premise. (#3-#6) Character posters with only a slight variance from design to design may keep visual cohesion, but it deprives them of being inventive designs. (#7-#10) While the actual look of these posters isn’t particularly stunning, the reddish image overlays are fascinating and are terrifically symbolic. (#11) This looks like The Addams Family poster was merged with the design for Death Becomes Her and neither were adequately vetted to see if they fit together sufficiently.

Review: Guillermo del Toro certainly has an unusual mind. This comes out plainly and effectively in this new trailer. Bending Gothic horror conventions to create a fascinating period thriller seems like a great idea for this kind of director and seeing where it goes will be fascinating.
