Review: (1) A suitable poster design to appeal to fans of the TV series without making it completely inaccessible to non-fans. (2) If you recognize the Coppertone ad from which this pun is derived, it might be amusing, but otherwise it isn’t. (#3-#8) This 6-poster range of character posters showcases the film’s cast in unique worldly settings in an effort to appeal to those familiar with the settings. (#9-#18) These foreign language designs take the first set of character posters to a different level, introducing locales with which the language’s primary speakers are likely more familiar than are American audiences.
(#19) Perhaps this has meaning to those familiar with the show, but for everyone else, it’s an easy one to forget. (#20) This is probably the most visually striking of the designs even if it isn’t in English. (#21) While this is a primary design, it’s part-and-parcel with the character designs. (#22) I recognize the rainbow reference, but this is an otherwise forgettable design. (#23) Being incredibly detailed doesn’t necessarily translate to incredibly interesting.

Review: (#1) This teaser trailer sets this up as a battle between a Blackbeard-type villain and the denizens under the sea, but relies too heavily on familiarity with the TV show to be of interest to non-fans. (#2) This almost entirely eliminates the villain, making this more of an adventure story, which might appeal to a broader base of filmgoers, but will still be heavily limited to SpongeBob fans.
Oscar Prospects:
None.
